In an effort to keep our parish church, choir loft and gathered assembly safe during this time of the COVID pandemic, we are making some modifications regarding our music ministry and liturgy planning.
Because singing and the playing of many instruments in public are factors that can cause the spread of COVID, soloists and instrumentalists no longer will be allowed for weddings at our church. Our own capable organists also are soloists. This policy change is for their safety as well as for the safety of our assembled congregations.
Wedding music can be selected with the help of our wedding planning guide found on the parish website at www.mountcarmelblessedsacrament.com under WEDDING PLANNING.
Brides and grooms should contact Anne Elacqua (315-941-7447) to coordinate and plan music for their weddings. Questions about readings, readers, candle ceremony and the organization of the opening processions or any other matters dealing with the wedding ceremony will be coordinated through our marriage team headed by Mario and Carmelann Scalzo (315-381-3132).
Weddings will be planned so that people do not remain in church for extended periods of time in order to mitigate the spread of COVID. We encourage having services rather than Masses for weddings and we have eliminated music at the sign of peace and at post-communion.
Popular, secular or CD music is not appropriate in church for weddings. These pieces can be used for receptions. Especially during this time of pandemic, our Catholic rituals should celebrate God’s presence in our lives and God’s love for us.
