Scalzos receive Immaculata Award for volunteer service

Mario and Carmelann Scalzo are the 2021 recipients of the diocese’s Immaculata Award. They received the award Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse.

The Immaculata Award honors the lay men and women who volunteer in their parishes and beyond. The recipients are nominated by their parish or pastor to receive this award in recognition of their service in the name of the Lord. This is the 11th annual awards.

Mario and Carmelann volunteer in many activities in the parish, including the Social Committee, marriage preparation team, the Parish Festival and other events.

The men and women who receive this award believe all that God has revealed to us in scripture and tradition. They celebrate God’s love and salvation in the sacraments. They live the teachings of Christ and his church, and they ground the relationship with the Lord in prayer. All of this is what leads the to serve charitably in the name of Jesus.
