‘Spirit of the Season’ coming Dec. 3; register here

A new holiday event is coming to our parish in December.

Leonarda Priore — a former Utican and member of Mount Carmel Church and president of Chelsea Opera of New York City, which has brought us the holiday favorite “The Jazz Nativity … Bending Towards the Light” — will visit Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish once again.

At 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, our parish and Chelsea Opera will offer “Spirit of the Season,” an evening of lessons and carols for the Christmas season. Many different musical genres and reflections will be offered.

Admission is free, but you MUST register in advance. A free-will offering will take place as you exit the church.

Like all things in 2020, there will be safety protocols to follow. Here are the details:

  • Anyone who wishes to attend must register. We can accommodate about 165 people in church as we continue to practice social distancing. You can register by clicking on the photo below, or by calling or emailing Anne Elacqua. You can reach her at 315-941-7447 or by emailing her at aelacqua@syrdio.org.
  • Masks and face coverings MUST be worn at all times, covering your mouth and nose.  As we do for weekend Mass, attendees will enter through the side doors at the front of the church on Catherine Street where you will check in, have your temperature taken and be escorted to a pew.
  • All singers and musicians from Chelsea Opera will be socially distanced in the sanctuary.
  • At the end of the event, you will be instructed on how to exit the church.

In this dismal year of pandemic, this event is a wonderful opportunity to uplift our spirits and prepare for the celebration of the birthday of Christ with music selections delivered to you from the heart.
