Many of the members of the First Communion Class of 2015 gathered with their parents Saturday, Feb. 21, for a very special preparation class. In addition to creating their chalices for First Communion, the students and parents listened to the words of the Rev. Francis Pompei, who was visiting Mount Carmel / Blessed Sacrament once again for a parish retreat.
Under a beautiful blue sky dotted with puffy clouds, more than 80 golfers teed off in the third annual Parish Golf Tournament at Stonebridge Golf and Country Club. Golfers were treated to treats and drinks in the morning, lunch and a steak dinner. Each received a goodie bag and were eligible for many gifts and other prizes that were raffled.
On Sunday, Sept. 27, Father Jim treated more than 200 parish volunteers to a barbecue in the Scalabrini Center parking lot. This was Father Jim's thank you to all those who volunteer their time and talent to make Mount Carmel / Blessed Sacrament the vibrant parish it is. On the menu was pulled pork, chicken, hot dogs, cold slaw, pasta salad, beer, wine and soft drinks. Also, members of the parish made many different varieties of baked goods.
The annual parish bus trip to Yankee Stadium took place Sunday, June 7. Led by Bob and Angela Ferdula, Yankees fans enjoyed a beautiful day in New York City. One of the "highlights" was the "check engine" light on the bus came on and we had a half-hour detour in Schenectady until the bus fixed itself.
